Initiative: Coffee & Ecotourism
Goal: To support small, sustainable, family farms by promoting their products and spreading awareness of the meals and lodging offered in the unique nature preserve called Miraflor.
Deep in the mountains of western Nicaragua lies the sustainable farming community of Miraflor. Miraflor is composed of small, self-sustaining family farms who have agreed to eliminate the use of chemicals in order to preserve their land.
The farms are usually small. With the average size ranging from 1 to 10 acres, the farm is typically the family’s sole source of income. We want to support these families by purchasing their goods; primarily shade grown, organically farmed coffee.
Each trip we carry home as much coffee as possible. The coffee is excellent. The blend of medium and dark roasted beans are extremely smooth. There is a hint of chocolate in this earthy, low acid coffee.
